Staying Active With Your Dog with the Houndabout Bicycle Trailer

My review of the Solvit HoundAbout™ Pet Bicycle Trailer and how we're staying active with our dog.

I’ve talked about the area we live in a few times on Hello Nature, but the overall theme is we’re surrounded by nature. We’re on the edge of a national forest which means we have tons of trails just minutes away from our house. This was definitely one of the selling points for me with this house!

The thing we didn’t realize about these trails? How long some of them can be! We’ve visited quite a few, but we haven’t explored them in full because of their length. Hiking them in full can be tough, especially with Sookie.

But we got some new gear this Fall to solve that problem and change up how we’re staying active. I am SO excited to introduce you to the Houndabout Bicycle Trailer.

We’ve never tried biking with Sookie because we never felt like it was the safest idea for us or her. She’s a runner and the idea of having her take off while we were holding her leash while biking? No thanks!

So our bike rides were solo. Until now where it’s all I want to do with her and Lily.

I’ve always loved these trailers for kids, but the Solvit HoundAbout™ Pet Bicycle Trailer is perfect for our fur baby. Now we can bring her to all of the parks and trails around here without having to worry if she’ll be too pooped to finish.

I loved a lot of things about this trailer, but here are some of the highlights for us.

The Access

The front door includes two different layers: a zippered, mesh screen layer and a zippered, vinyl layer for blocking wind. I love that you can use either one depending on the weather and where you’re traveling. I’m also a huge fan of how Sookie is able to stick her head out of the top so she doesn’t feel like she’s missing out on the view.

The rear door makes it ridiculously easy for dogs to get in and out of the trailer. Sookie is a tall dog so I wasn’t sure how it would work for her but she had zero issues. In and out like a pro!

The Storage

Having pets and a baby basically taught me that you can never, ever have too many storage options. It’s just not possible. And Solvit obviously had me in mind when they built the Solvit HoundAbout™ Pet Bicycle Trailer because the storage is fantastic. The various storage pockets hold tons of gear! Love that we can store some of our trip supplies in there, especially when it comes to the next item.

The Stroller Conversion

So this is one of my favorite features of the Solvit HoundAbout™ Pet Bicycle Trailer. Although it’s a separate kit, it’s an awesome option. With the stroller conversion kit, you’re able to turn this trailer into an awesome stroller so you can push your dog instead of pulling them. If you’re headed out for a long walk or jog and you’re not sure if your pup can make it the whole way, this is a must-have option!

Assembly was a breeze for the the pet bicycle trailer, too. 30 minutes and it was attached to the bike, ready for Sookie to enjoy the ride.

We only have a few more weeks to enjoy the trailer and I’m excited to check out a few trails while the leaves are still changing. But I am SO excited for next Spring. I can’t wait to enjoy the trails when the trees and plants are blooming. Sookie always gets a little bit of Spring fever with us, too, so I’m sure she’ll be equally as ready for it.
