Hanging out in the kitchen with Lily is one of my favorite things. Seriously. This kid loves to cook and bake already. Okay, so cooking and baking are more like mixing and sprinkling, but hey. She makes a fun sous chef.

One of her favorite things to do is making animals or holiday food. Like she was all about these Nutter Butter Mummies for like a month until she realized that the mummies are no more after Halloween.

Then she moved on to these super cute Brown Bear Rice Krispie Treats.

While I’m 110% positive she would have eaten all of the ingredients on their own, it’s more fun to put them together on a stick and let her show off her brown bear dessert bars.

A bonus is that there really aren’t too many ingredients. Especially if you make them with Kellogg’s Rice Krispie Treats. (But you can totally make your own, too!) Add some:

Once it’s coated in chocolate and has cooled, you just have to attach the separate pieces. Peanut butter ears and mouth with M&Ms and then candy eyes. Easy peasy, right?!

If you’re making this bear dessert with little kids, I’d recommend having them help with the decorating part. Getting the chocolate on the Rice Krispie bar can be a little tough and hot. See also: really messy even for an adult.

These brown bear Rice Krispie treats are a great way to spend some quality time together in the kitchen, making treats for loved ones. You could also make this simple dessert to go along with your favorite forest books for kids. Some of our favorite Eric Carle books, like Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and Baby Bear, Baby Bear, What Do You See? would be great choices! Doesn’t get much better than storytime and some forest friend desserts!

Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American
Keyword: Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Rice Krispie Treat
Servings: 8
Author: Ashley
Ingredients
  • 8 Kellogg's Rice Krispie Treats
  • 24 Brown M&M Candies
  • 12 oz Wilton Chocolate Candy Melts
  • 24 Peanut Butter Candy Melts
  • 16 Large Candy Eyes
  • 8 Popsicle Sticks
Instructions
  1. Open the Rice Krispie Treats and discard the wrappers. Insert a popsicle stick into the base of each Rice Krispie Treat. Place the Rice Krispie Treats on a plate and in the fridge for 15 - 20 minutes.

  2. Pour the bag of the Wilton Chocolate Candy Melts into a microwave-safe dish. Heat in the microwave in 30 seconds increments, stirring until melted.

  3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  4. Remove the Rice Krispie Treats from the fridge. Use a spoon to coat each Rice Krispie Treat with the melted chocolate, allowing the excess chocolate drip back into the bowl. Once coated, place the Rice Krispie Treat on the lined baking sheet.

  5. Give the brown bear ears using two peanut butter candy melts. Then place the two large candy eyes.

  6. Give the brown bear a nose using one peanut butter candy melt and a brown M&M (adhere the brown M&M with a small amount of melted chocolate on the back).

  7. Repeat with all the brown bears.
