Fences, Backyards and Bears – Oh My!

Happy Tuesday!

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend.

We decided to take some much needed time away from work and install our fence so we could finally let our pups roam the yard without a leash. I can’t even begin to tell you how much work it is to install a chain link fence, but it was SO worth the aches and pains. It was one of the few downfalls of this house and to be able to knock it off our house to-do list within two months of living here is awesome.

Another downfall of our house?

Bears.

We had no idea they were really in town until Saturday when our neighbor was talking about how it was a good idea to have the fence since there are 3-4 bears in the area. We laughed about it, saying “that’s crazy!” and hoping we’d never really witness it in our yard.

Yet Sunday morning, we woke up to this:

A decimated bird feeder with bird seed all over our porch and our compost bin being rolled a good 10-15 feet off it’s base into the yard. We’ve since relocated our compost bin into the confines of our fenced in yard and all bird feeders will now be there, too.

As much as I love being so close to nature, I’m hoping that’s as close as I get to a bear around here.
