Self-care during the summer feels so natural. Going for a walk, lounging in our backyard, or tending our garden feels makes self-care a breeze during the summer months.

But the winter months?

Sometimes it feels impossible to squeeze in some self-care. Especially as a busy mom. We're constantly battling cabin fever and trying to keep colds at bay that it's hard to make time for ourselves.

I've compiled a list of simple winter self-care ideas for busy moms for those exact moments. You won't need much time and you'll be tending to your needs in no time.

Get Moving

We live in the midwest which means our roads are ice-coated for quite a few months so I stick to indoor activities. I'm not a gym girl so I find ways to get exercise inside our house all winter long. Yoga or exercise videos are great options. House projects like painting or updates can be done as well. And if you're looking for something a little more fun, crank up the tunes and have a family dance party!

Stock Up on Quality Essentials

Stocking up on cold care items may not feel like luxurious self care, but it will allow you to take care of yourself so you can keep taking care of your little ones. So we always stock up on Kleenex, especially the Antiviral and Lotion kinds, pre and mid-winter. We choose Kleenex because it kills 99.9% of cold and flu viruses in the tissue within 15 minutes with it's moisture activated blue dot layer with a special anti viral formula.

Indulge in the Quiet Moments

Baths, books, a cup of tea, journaling, naps, meditations, etc are great in winter. These are things that normally slip in the warmer months because we're so busy. It's nice to embrace these quiet, calm activities and feel as if I have the time to truly enjoy them.

Fuel Your Body

Junk food and comfort food sounds so inviting when you're stuck indoors without fresh produce from the garden. Choose veggie and protein heavy meals to better fuel your body. You may be able to find indoor farmer's markets so you can cook healthier meals at home as well. If not, make sure to preserve fresh fruit and veggies when they're in season for the colder months.

Strengthen Your Connections

Enjoy date nights and activities with friends. Try a new class or reach out to an old friend. Get involved in your community or volunteer with an organization you believe in. Find ways to stay connected with others so that the winter months feel less isolating.

Taking 10-15, even 30, minutes for yourself doesn't have to be hard – even in the winter. And if you're looking to stock up on your favorite self-care items, I'd recommend heading to Walmart! You can grab your Kleenex, favorite tea, some date night supplies, exercise gear, produce and more!
